The class aims at providing basic and advanced knowledge underlying the simulation model needed for better understanding existing simulation models as well as developing own simulation models. The course is to cover the fundamentals necessary to undertake upper-level air transportation system analysis and to answer air transportation-related questions. In achieving this goal, a number of objectives are identified, as follows: 1. Understand the basic concept of probability and statistics required for understanding simulation modeling techniques, 2. Understand different types of simulation modeling techniques, 3. Analyze a simple queuing system in both mathematically as well as numerically, 4. Generate and test random numbers, 5. Understand and implement variance reduction, 6. Construct own simulation model and analyze results from own model.
